Cookies and donut

Best Apple Strudel!

I am going to spill information about my favourit-ist Apple strudel!

Presenting to you..COOKIES & DONUTS

In Southlands Boulevard Willetton, there is a little kiosk called COOKIES & DONUTS. Situated in front of Coles selling cakes, donuts and pastries, it looks like the usual cake kiosk but no...they have the best apple strudel EVER! So good that it is always sold out by noon.

I was lucky enough to have the best mummy EVER whom went and bought me some apple strudel. The apples are always crispy, fresh and juicy, custard and cream all so creamy with volume sandwiched between a light and fluffy pastry, topped off with a dusting of icing sugar. Every component compliments each other. The cream and custard isn't like the usual ones you'd find, it's more creamier? with volume yet not overly sweet and does not seem fatty. *when it is?* ugh I don't know what I am talking about..it's just GOOD :)

I can devour the whole slab of apple strudel alone and not feel UGH from the fatty overload, instead I am more refreshed and sad coz it's gone :( I shall now showcase this apple strudel that I speak so highly of.

This slab of apple strudel will set you back $7

Sadly I have to share with my siblings :(

fresh apples, cream, custard what more do you want!

My whole family loves loves LOVES the Apple strudel and we believe it's on par with Corica if not BETTER. Give it a try and be the judge for yourself.

Superstar waffles

"SUPER delicious!"

Last night I went to superstar waffles with the bf having dessert before dinner as I was afraid it would be SUPER packed with people if we went after dinner. It's abit difficult to find the place as it's nestled away in an alleyway just opposite bivouac and next to K3G along William st.

To our surprise, the little joint was quite empty..YES! *fist pumps* beat the crowd! I love the interiors, blackboard, bottles, vintage side couch and menus on clipboards. Perfect place to have a waffle and WAFFLE with your friends XD

The menu was filled with a variety of waffles and an extensive drink menu with unique drinks such as green tea latte and taro latte. I got excited and ordered the taro latte, bf had the flat white and as for waffles, we shared the peanut butter mousse waffle.

Taro latte

Taro latte

This was delicious! I'm not a coffee person so I enjoyed the creamy taro taste, there was something refreshing about it. I would have liked it abit sweeter so I wondered why I wasn't given sugar, only to realise after almost finishing the drink that the sugar were in the bottles that I thought were decor ALL THIS TIME :O *face palm* but thats alright I'm healthier because of my stupidity ^^ and it was still delicious.

Don't be fooled..they're not just decor >_< there's sugar
 in them

Flat white

Flat white

I'm not a coffee person so I can't comment on how good the flat white was, taste all the same to me but the bf felt the coffee beans were abit burnt. If that was the case I'm sure it was a one off thing after reading many good reviews on their coffee.

Peanut butter mousse waffle

Peanut butter mousse-
Waffles with peanut butter mousse, topped with oreo crumble,
served with freshcream and oreo biscuit.

This waffle was SOOO GOOD! especially the peanut butter mousse. I have to admit I was abit worried that it didn't have syrup to go with the waffles as I was so use to having gelare waffles..but after having this..syrup what?? delicious! highly recommended.

Overall I had a positive first impression and will definitely come back to try the other flavours and the green tea latte so look out for more posts! We left at 8:30pm as the joint was getting pretty packed, so I'd suggest coming early as this place is the talk of the town/fb atm. I believe gelares has a new contender.

Rochelle Adonis

"High tea with ELEGANCE"

I had high tea at Rochelle Adonis for my 23rd birthday celebration in March with a small group of friends..a perfect place for a relaxing birthday brunch for an old fart like myself T_T.

Rochelle Adonis is a little Cakes and Confections studio that also caters for high tea, degustation and lunch. It is such a girly fresh place with friendly staff. High tea costs $45pp for which 50% deposit has to be made and High tea sessions only running at 10am, 12noon and 2pm.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a long wide grey marble table which really couldn't fit many people so be quick when making reservations. One side of the wall was beautifully decorated with an assortment of frames..though...the other side was just a bunch of files and a computer =-= haha...would be absolutely perfect if the whole place was filled with frames...so tip is..choose wisely on where you want to sit if you want to capture the beautiful frames in your photos. *well if you're a camwhorer like myself XD*

Now I don't remember the names of all the dishes and the details of how they tasted...all I remember was the good and the bads. Once seated, we were all given a menu of teas to order from before the commencement of first course, the sugar came in cute bowls and milk was served in a milk BOTTLE! just like the olden days when there was a milk man delivering bottles of milk ^^

FIRST COURSE (SAVOURY)

Our first dish was mushroom patte spread with toasted bread and I enjoyed it...I wish I ate it more slowly and appreciated the art of it but I kinda just gobbled it up :(

Then came cucumber sandwiches and risotto balls...I loved it all...cucumber sandwich was very refreshing as well as the delicious crispy risotto balls with soft centres.

SECOND COURSE (SWEETS)

Nothing could have prepared us for the sugar overload that was about to come. First dessert came in a shot glass followed by a pear praline ice cream in a spoon which was the favourite... then a large tier with an assortment of sweet goodies arrived...from meringues to profiteroles to brownies..all in a more classy manner of course~.

Overall I enjoyed the experience... though I have to admit I was left feeling abit disappointed with how much dishes we had with $45...I was left longing for more savoury items..probably coz I am a savoury person myself and I was hoping for a more unique array of desserts rather than the standard profiteroles and brownies BUT it was my first high tea session so I can't really judge and $45 isn't that bad if I put into account the love put into each dish, the fresh produce used, good quality tea, the excellent service with the waitress and waiters introducing each dish to us and the lovely venue. Basically YES..do give this place a go as the quality of everything mentioned before really brings out the ELEGANCE in you.

NB: I believe there is a constant change in items being served in each high tea session from what I've read in different blogs so don't expect the same things.

Opening Hours:
Wed-Sat. 10am-4pm
(Now newly opened on Sundays due to popularity *double check*)

Koko Black

"Small doses...small doses"

I'm sure everyone has pretty much heard about the newly opened Koko black in Claremont Quarter. I love chocolate so after hearing about it, I did not waste time.

I've been to Koko black twice trying the chocolate platters and the high tea. My first time was late Friday night after dinner out with my friends..I was surprised it was open till 11pm and realise it's the perfect choice for those moments where you've had dinner with your friends and decide to have dessert elsewhere but end up clueless and loitering outside..sound familiar?

Lovely interiors
Arriving at Koko black it was obvious that word has already gone out as it was PACKED! The place has a lovely European feel to it. We were unable to get a seat inside so settled with the numerous table seatings scattered outside. The waitresses served us a cup of water *which was totally necessary*, serviettes and cutlery. I was surprised as to how classy the place is and the service. I thought it would just be another San churros.

We all ordered the Belgian hot chocolate each and shared an autumn spoil platter. The hot chocolate was perfect...deliciously creamy with warm good quality chocolate no powder chocolate nonsense and to top it off lovely chocolate art on our cups.

Belgian hot chocolate

The Autumn spoil consisted of a variety of goodies presented on a wooden block. From the left is a cinnamon cake, ginger bread cookie, chocolate treats, Belgian mousse (so smooth and rich) and the delicious fresh pear sorbet that was much needed to cut through all the chocolate richness. This shared between the four of us was actually enough.

Autumn spoil

After our chocolate indulgence..we were SOOOO full and chocolate out. I should've learnt from this experience...but nope...
.......
.....
...
.
I was back in Koko black a few weeks later trying the queen of hearts high tea. The high tea is part of the menu so no reservations required and high tea is on everyday at all hours. I tried the high tea with 4 of my girlfriends and we came early to get a seating inside XD.

Empty Koko black haha

Love the lights

Each high tea tier caters for two people which includes a beverage of your choice. As we had 5 people we asked the lady if we could have a tier to cater the 5 of us. We were all charged 18.50pp and were only given two tiers with what doesn't look adjusted to cater for 5. That was a disappointing start as there was mostly one of each pastry so we had to share it between the 5 of us.

Luckily the high tea includes a choice of beverage so it did relieve us from the feeling of being ripped off. This time I had the Hazelnut Belgian hot chocolate. I never get sick of the lovely art on each cup and the Hazelnut had a very distinct nutty flavour which I enjoyed. A good change from the standard hot chocolate.

My other friends had the Belgian hot chocolate, chai tea and ice chocolate. The chai tea was a surprise..my friend had to pour it through a sieve..basically DIY hahaa...but each component looked perfectly brewed. My friend thought it tasted more of hot chocolate rather than chai tea though..but she didn't have a hot chocolate to compare it with.

Chai flavour hot chocolate

Ice chocolate
I thought the high tea was rather average..yes the pastries were housemade as my friend saw them making them but it wasn't anything unique..I guess you pay for what you get..$18.50pp is quite cheap for high tea though I was expecting abit more. The savoury toasted sandwiches were of two kinds, vegetarian sandwich with roasted capsicums and a non vegetarian one which I didn't get to try. The outside of the sandwiches were buttery crispy warm paired with the fillings were delicious..we all wanted more, the quiches were simple and delicious how can you go wrong with quiche right? though retailing at $3.50 per mini quiche was rather expensive.

Queen of hearts high tea
The chocolate pastries were silky smooth as expected from a place that specialises in chocolates, there was a creme brulee which was the favourite amongst us all..my friend could taste a little bit of liqueur and with the perfectly flambe top it was yum, I thought the lemon tart was abit too sour for my liking but that's just my opinion and the chocolate cake wasn't anything special, it was the chocolate ganache on top that shined, just melted in our mouths.

More Koko black goodness

...and more
After all so S-L-O-W-L-Y devouring our tiers we were soooo full and wondered why were we complaining about not having enough haha. It was surprisingly filling I guess the beverages did the trick and once again I was chocolate out. I don't want to discourage readers to order the high tea, in our case it wasn't worth sharing with the 5 of us, definitely better for two. Though I don't think I will be coming back for awhile...I guess Koko black lived up to its name providing rich, smooth, good quality chocolate...so good that I need time to recover from its awesomeness.

Tip 1: When high tea says for TWO...then...it is for TWO :P
Tip 2: Share share share...don't think about having a platter to yourself
Tip 3: Parking can be abit difficult especially if you're not sure where Koko black is situated..my tip is turn right into a small road beside (just after) hungry jacks when coming from Stirling hwy UWA and parking in the 2h parking lot at the left..walk straight down the road into Claremont Quarter entrance and you will be staring at koko black directly straight ahead. There is also underground parking.

Cups Frozen Yogurt

FRO-YO~ yo yo!

Step aside Icey Ice...Move aside Utopia/Easyway/Tea fusion....FRO-YO is in town! and it's definitely here to stay.

Once upon a time I was the icey ice and bbt fanatic..I was happy ^^.....but after awhile the happily ever after just seemed like a distant memory..I GOT BORED! until I started hearing about a newly opened branch called CUPS where they served FRO-YO...FROZEN YOGURT! my first reaction was.."OMG wat a cute name! froyo~ FRozen YOgurt! get it! FRO-YO..FROzen YOgurt hert hert =-=

Anyways....

Stepping into the store I was clueless as to how it worked..but all it took was just three simple steps

1. Pick your cup size
2. Pick your flavour (Original, Green tea, Pomegranate)...you can taste test
3. Pick your toppings...numerous toppings ranging from fresh fruits to candy to nuts

..............and WALAH!

Pomegranate FROYO with fruit toppings
The texture of the Froyo was basically like yogurt but creamier and more refreshing...it's pretty much a healthy ice cream. I tried the pomegranate flavour and I LOVED IT!...I also liked the original but felt like something more on the fruity side...as for the green tea...YUCK! well...I'm not a big fan of green tea flavoured things...I like grean tea TEA though...I just found the flavour waaayy too green tea strong >_< guess green tea lovers would like it.

A few weeks later I found myself back at CUPS with fel and celia...fel was raving on about the mochi topping which I didn't realise they had..yeh~~ that almost sent felicia to the emergency room...she said "HOW COULD YOU HAVE FROYO WITHOUT MOCHI!!" so as expected..I chose mochi on my froyo~ XD The nice chewy gooey goodness adds a new dimension of texture to my froyo cup...i'll be sure to always choose mochi on my froyo ^^Y

Original FROYO with mochi and fruits
So after discovering CUPS, when it comes to catching up with friends or just finding a place to chill or snack, rather than throwing icey ice or bbt suggestions in the air..FroYo comes to mind *though froyo also makes bbt so that's killing two birds with one stone when having bbt or froyo conflicts* ^^ Think everyone should try this place~ it's healthy! if that helps :P and perfect for cooling off in the hot summer days, not like winter is going to stop us.
